A luxury hotel uses personalised labels to improve the quality of its catering service

The Portman Ritz-Carlton, a luxury hotel owned by the Marriott Group, is renowned for its classic style and is a must for high-ranking guests and dignitaries. Located on West Nanjing Road in Shanghai, it occupies the central building of the Shanghai Mall complex, a prestigious commercial and residential area. Built in the 1990s, this luxury hotel has a long and rich historical heritage. It follows the legendary tradition of The Ritz-Carlton, offering its guests tailor-made services and all the facilities they need.

The Portman Ritz-Carlton is using personalised labels to display food in its Portman Restaurant and Executive Lounge, both of which offer buffets. The labels include custom-designed and printed cards to show prices for meals and merchandise in the Ritz Bar & Lounge, tea rooms and gift shops.

The hotel's mission is to serve its guests with elegance. This brand aims to offer guests an unforgettable experience during their stay. For its excellent food and beverage service, the hotel sought a personalised label display system that was aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. The labels seen in buffets generally use cheap paper and plastic, which are not durable. Such an approach was not in keeping with the hotel's brand image. But using other materials leads to problems such as complex production and high costs. The composition of the buffet is often decided according to the seasons, current festivals and other factors. After taking all these factors into account and comparing the various players on the market, the hotel chose the Edikio Guest solution. This labelling solution allows hotels to easily produce high-quality labels without relying on external suppliers.

The Portman Ritz-Carlton hotel uses Edikio Guest, a complete solution specially developed for hotels and other catering businesses. Using Edikio Guest's software, the hotel can customise the style and content of the label, then print text or images in white on a matt-textured black card. The Portman Ritz-Carlton chose a simple, classic style, using the hotel logo, the English name of the hotel and the names of the dishes in Chinese and English on each menu. The identically printed labels for the cafeteria and executive lounge reflect the hotel's classic style.

There are currently over 300 different labels. As dishes change, catering staff print new labels, with 3 to 5 new cards on average every day. All the labels are stored in a fixed drawer in the display area. Even if the dishes change temporarily, staff can quickly find the corresponding labels.

Since the buffet uses a unified labelling solution, the hotel decided to extend the use of the Edikio Guest solution. In order to be able to reuse a single card, the paper price labels have been replaced by Edikio Guest labels for drinks sold at the Ritz Bar & Lounge in the hotel lobby, desserts in the bakery and items sold in the souvenir shops.
